Webb and McDonald, and Raine Dominate CDI Del Mar

Webb and Hannibal Ladies Webb, McDonald, and Raine dominated the FEI level at the CDI Del Mar in San Diego, California, the first weekend in May 1999. Debbie McDonald excelled in the Pan American PSG Qualifier with Hanoverians, Word Perfect and Brentina. She produced scores (69.96% and 68.84%) which easily covered first and second position. The bay gelding Word Perfect led again in the Intermediaire I test.

In the big tour Leslie Webb (shown here) ruled the State Line/USET Grand Prix Championships by winning both Grand Prix (64.33%) and Speciale (64.19%). Her loyal partner in this battle was the gorgeous Trakehner Hannibal by Pregelstrand. Kathleen Raine, who was the overall Grand Prix winner at the 1998 Dressage In the Rockies with the chestnut Fidelia by Beethoven, won the World Cup/USET Grand Prix qualifier with 64.93%.

Nevertheless, there were men present at Del Mar. Former Olympic team member Steffan Peters won the Grand Prix open with Grandeur (66.40%) and Ryan Hites was again unbeatable in the Young Riders tests scoring over 65%. His solid performances make him a serious competitor for the individual gold at the 1999 NAYRC in Wadsworth, IL.
