Boulonnais at Bad Honnef

boulonnais On an island on The Rhine River in the charming town of Bad Honnef, just south of Cologne Germany, organizer Uwe Spenlen transforms the public park each summer into an ideal setting for a National Dressage Show that attracts Germany's top competitors.

Shown here dragging the arena, created each year for the three day show, are a team of Boulonnais horses who spend the rest of their work year logging the forests. The two arenas, one for competition, and one for warm-up are built from scratch with rubber mats as the base, and truckloads of footing.

No sprinkler system, no problem: the water from the Rhine is pumped by generator, and fire hoses are used to keep the footing watered, assuring the best conditions for a first class show.
