March 2, 2001 Miami Dade Winter Dressage - A Tropical Oasis The
Tropical Park Equestrian Center is an oasis in the midst of the Miami
hustle and bustle. Formerly a thoroughbred race track, it was converted
years ago into a county park featuring bike trails, a stadium, lakes complete
with alligators, iguana's, and flocks of green parrots watching the competition
from the treetops. The Equestrian Center is the permanent home of the
Miami Dade Mounted Police force, with roomy stabling left over from it's
racing days.
The intimate two-day show, held February 24-25 offers a more affordable and peaceful alternative to the rigors of the four-day four-ring marathon, which dominates the Florida winter dressage circuit. A welcome break from the intensity of the Wellington show scene was enjoyed by many top competitors as well as local dressage riders whose limelight is often overshadowed. The warm hospitality of the Miami-Dade Dressage Club featured a competitor's party Saturday evening hosted by Pele and Lena Wedemark, of Swedish Exclusive Dressage. Competitors and club volunteers enjoyed good food and drink, and a beautiful Miami evening under the stars. |
