The weekend of March 16-18, continued the quest for points in qualifying for the USET
Championships in Gladstone, New Jersey in June. While Thursday and Friday
were so scorching hot that jackets were excused, Saturday afternoon
brought torrential downpours and Sunday threatened rain all day, with intermittent
showers soaking a few unlucky riders.
Jane Cleveland, won the new Young Horse Test, in the rain, for six-year-olds with Enigma, a Westphalian gelding by Ehrentusch out of
Anastasia by Apart, with a 72%. This was a Qualifying Class for the FEI
World Breeding Championship Dressage for Young Horses in Verden, Germany
2001. They also place second in fourth level, test one with 66%.
"You have to get a 75% to qualify for Verden, and the travel expenses to
Germany are a lot, but it would be a total thrill," said Cleveland.
Romy Tota and Vincenzo won the test for five-year-olds with a 70.26%. All
of the horses showing in these classes showed tremendous quality and
excellent training.
Cleveland's coach, Colombian rider Marco Bernal won the Prix St. Georges with Amando, an
8-year-old KWPN gelding owned by Michelle Price. Bernal has been riding
him for one month and says "He's very talented. It was his third time at PSG
and at first he was upset because it was very hot - he is very sensitive - but
he calmed down in the ring and his test was clean, with no mistakes."
