Tami Hoag: Riding and Writing
with Amber Heintzberger for DressageDaily

Tami Hoag and Felicki at the 2001 Palm Beach Dressage Derby The serial killer as just another face in the crowd, the next door neighbor, the investigator's supervisor: a premise for Ashes to Ashes, best-selling novel by author Tami Hoag. And who knew that this face in the crowd at so many horse shows is the author of a phenomenal eight New York Times bestsellers in a record-breaking 20 months? Fewer than you might imagine, as this soft-spoken, easygoing writer isn't one to boast.

She has been writing since childhood. Her first romance was published in 1988; she continued successfully in this genre, making a gradual transition to mystery around 1990-91. "There is no lack of material for suspense," she says. "You see it on the news every night."
