German Olympic Team Horse Chacomo Retired

Alexandra Simons-de Ridder and ChacomoThe 2000 German Olympic Team horse Chacomo (Holsteiner by Calypso) has been retired after a series of health problems over the past year resulted in the decision.

Owned and ridden by Alexandra Simons-de Ridder, the duo were in their prime in Aachen 1999, which is also the area de-Ridder calls home, winning both the Grand Prix and Grand Prix Special. In 2000 Aachen after placing second, the then eleven-year-old gelding, considered by many to be one of the world's top dressage horses earned their position on the Olympic German Dressage Team. Plagued by health problems, Chacomo was unable to compete in the European Championships earlier this year.

De-Ridder, the 38-year-old mother of two, and married to Ton de Ridder they own and operate Hof Rossheide where they specialize in training horse and rider, as well as standing quality stallions.
