USA Dressage Young Horse Finals Results

The three USA Dressage Young Horse finals to select the U.S. Five and Six-Year Old dressage horses that will represent the United States at the FEI World Breeding Championships in Verden, Germany, August 1-4, 2002, were held recently. A minimum qualifying score of 6.5 was required to enter into these Finals.

According to the USA Equestrian selection criteria, the minimum score required to advance to the FEI World Breeding Championships is a 7.5. Based on the results of the finals, four Five-Year-Old horses and one Six-Year-Old horse achieved the minimum scores required. The number of horses that the U.S. can enter in the FEI World Breeding Championships is two in each age group.

Five-Year Olds:
1 - Kavalier (TRA, Amatcho - Kandice, by Erzsand), ridden and owned by Jane Cleveland 8.375
2 - Felix (HAN, Fabriano - Alexa, by Augustinus XX), ridden by Debbie McDonald, and owned by Peggy Thomas

In their verbal commentary following her ride, the judges commented, "[Wincenzo] has a wonderful attitude and work ethic that is apparent in his performance. He has a lot of elasticity and his canter shows more engagement than his trot. The canter is his specialty."
