Ready to Win Medal at World Equestrian Games
The
Spanish dressage team has never before been so prepared for the World
Equestrian Games as this year. Being the hosts of the World Championships
held in Jerez de la Frontera (ESP), September 9 - 22, 2002, Spain is
aiming for the maximum with their dressage team. With a weakened Dutch
team since the departure of Anky van Grunsven and Gestion Bonfire, the
silver medal is within reach for the Spanish dressage picadors.
At the
German international dressage competition of Norten Hardenberg, Spanish
riders Beatriz Ferrer/Salat and Rafael Soto Andrade showed their potential
and strength to their competitors and dominated the international field
of top Grand Prix riders. In the Grand Prix for Special, Ferrer-Salat
rode an elegant, flawless test with her 15-year old Hanoverian gelding
Beauvalais (by Bolero). Scoring 74%, Ferrar-Salat put the Danish Lone
Jorgenssen in second place. Jorgenssen rode a 72.76% test aboard her
Baden-Wurttemberger chestnut FBW Kennedy.
In
the Grand Prix Special, Jorgenssen reigned supreme aboard her sympathetic
gelding FBW Kennedy. With 75.40%, Jorgenssen had produced her highest
Special score every achieved in her dressage career. "I had so
much fun at the show," Jorgenssen said. "The Klassika Hardenberg
is a true example competition for the dressage sport." Linsenhoff
placed second aboard Renoir Unicef (OLD, by Rubinstein) with 74.92%
while Ferrer-Salat had to settle for third place with 74.84%.
3,500 spectators
came to see the Grand Prix freestyle which was won by Rafael Soto Andrade
who performed on dreamy music with his dancing Andalusian stallion Invasor.
Thanks to a 79.33% score, Soto Andrade, the head trainer of the Real
Esquela, the Spanish Equestrian Academy in Jerez, received the trophy
and blue ribbon and prevented a German to win any class in the big tour
of the CDI competition, which is extremely rare. Isabell Werth came
in second with Anthony FRH while American Guenter Seidel, the winner
of the Grand Prix for Freestyle, ranked third. Seidel still scored an
impressive 77.90% with his Westfalian Nikolaus.
