Jonggor's Weyden Retired from Competition

Sven Rothenberger's 1996 Olympic bronze medal winning dressage mount Jonggor's Weyden has been retired from competition at the beginning of April 2003. The 17-year old Hanoverian licensed stallion can look back on a wonderful career in the dressage ring. Purchased by Ari Gordijn, Sven Rothenberger's father-in-law, in 1995, Weyden was spotted by Sven at a local German dressage show. Within a year, Rothenberger transformed the liver chestnut stallion into a double Olympic medallist.

At the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, Rothenberger claimed team silver and individual bronze aboard Jonggor's Weyden. In 1997, the pair finished second in the World Cup Finals. Wife Gonnelien Rothenberger took over the ride in 2000, when Sven suffered from severe back problems. Gonnelien and Weyden won the 2001 Dutch National Dressage Championships and finished 14th at the 2002 World Equestrian Games in Jerez de la Frontera.

Jonggor's Weyden is approved for the Hanoverian, KWPN, Oldenburg and Hessian studbook. Sired by Western Star out of Grandia (by Grande), Weyden will devote his further life to breeding. He is stationed at De Ijzeren Man in Weert, The Netherlands.
