Wilcox, Gibson, Traurig, and Later, American Proof on European CDI Score Boards

Lucky Number Seven for Nancy Later at CDIO Mondorf Les Bains

Nancy LaterKingsclere Stable's Nancy Pugh/Later was the only American rider at the CDIO Mondorf Les Bains, Luxembourg. Mondorf, host of the 1995 European Dressage Championships, held its first international competition again in eight years; which is a thrilling fact, as the Mondorf outdoor show ring is one of the most photogenic in the world.

Nancy Later, who is located in Brewster, NJ in the summer and in Wellington, FL in the winter, is currently training with Diederik Wigmans and Marcel Timmermans in Stamproy, The Netherlands. In Mondorf, Later tested her improved skills in the small tour on Alexis D, an 11-year old Oldenburg mare by Archipel x Gardeulan II formerly competed at Grand Prix level by the German Katrin Bettenworth.

Later did a fine job placing seventh in both the Prix St Georges and the Intermediaire I. Competing against a field of 24 European Prix St Georges riders, Later scored 66.70 % with Alexis D, ranking just behind Hubertus Schmidt on Woyczek. Winner of the class was a very strong Arlette Holsters on the KWPN gelding Melvin (by Flemmingh). Holsters and Melvin scored 72.60%. In the Intermediaire I, Later finished seventh again with 63.95 %, while the winning score was 70.80% produced by Heike Kemmer on Ferragamo.

The Intermediaire I freestyle was won by Holsters and Melvin V with 76.65%! Melvin V is owned by the Belgian junior rider Julie de Deken who offered Melvin to her trainer Arlette Holsters, a former Belgian Grand Prix champion who finished 18th individually at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta on the Westfalian mare Faible (by Fruhlingsrausch).
