Iron Spring Friesians Performed at the 125th Anniversary Celebration of the Friesian Studbook in Holland

Belinda Nairn Wertman on GoffertTwo of Iron Spring Farm’s Friesian stallions were invited to perform in Holland at the 125th anniversary show of the Royal Association "Het Friesch Paarden-Stamboek", the Friesian Studbook (FPS) on November 20, 2004. Goffert 369 and Heinse 354 performed musical freestyles during the gala evening entertainment celebrating 125 years of Friesian breeding. The performance showcased both stallions’ FEI level dressage talent.

“It was a real honor to be invited to Holland,” said Mary Alice Malone, owner of Iron Spring Farm. “We have worked very hard to bring some of the best Friesians to the United States. To be invited back to Holland for this important event was really gratifying.” Ms. Malone rode Heinse 354. Belinda Nairn Wertman rode Goffert 369.

The Iron Spring stallions performed to a sold-out crowd of over 7,000 people. “They really love their Friesians in Holland,” explained Ms. Malone. “The crowd was cheering, clapping and stomping their feet. It was the experience of a lifetime.” Both stallions rose to the occasion and gave electric performances.

“We rode at nearly midnight,” Ms. Wertman said. “Goffert is the first approved Friesian stallion to compete at grand prix so he is a little bit of rock star over here. It was a wonderful experience.”

Mary Alice Malone on HeinseThe FPS is the oldest and second largest studbook for horses in The Netherlands. It was founded on May 1, 1879 to promote and guard the quality of the Friesian breed. Queen Beatrix has been the patroness of the organization since 1981.

The Anniversary celebration was a daylong event featuring speakers and performances by renowned Friesian experts, including a symposium on the future of Friesian horse breeding. The evening gala celebration not only featured Goffert 369 and Heinse 354, but also exhibitions by the Royal Stables.
