Tokyo and Ryan Yap Win Highlife Cup At Wellington Classic Dressage Challenge II

Ryan Yap and Tokyo won the Highlife Cup at the Wellington Classic Dressage Challenge II at the Jim Brandon Equestrian Center. The Highlife Cup, awarded to the highest scoring Warmblood at the show, is sponsored by Highlife Farms, a world-class sport horse and Warmblood breeding farm. West Palm Beach, FL  – Tokyo, a Dutch Warmblood owned by Renee Isler and ridden by Ryan Yap, showed off his spectacular canter during the Wellington Classic Dressage Challenge II to capture the highest score for a Warmblood at the show. Tokyo’s high score earned him the Highlife Cup, sponsored by Highlife Farms, a world-class sport horse farm and one of the country’s most prominent breeding facilities. “We earned a score of 74.186% in the Fourth Level Test of Choice,” said Yap, who is from Chicago and trains with Kathy Connelly. “Tokyo tries really hard and has a super canter.” Connelly was quick to praise Tokyo’s bright attitude and athletic abilities.

Jacqueline Brooks and Balmoral won the FEI Test of Choice class at the Wellington Classic Dressage Challenge II, at the Jim Brandon Equestrian Center. Draper Equine Therapy sponsored Brooks’ class and awarded the Olympic rider with a Draper saddle pad.

West Palm Beach, FL – Canadian Olympian Jacqueline Brooks and her Hanoverian gelding Balmoral rode away the winners of the FEI Test of Choice at the Wellington Classic Dressage Challenge II show, held at the Jim Brandon Equestrian Center. Draper Equine Therapy, makers of therapeutic horse and rider products featuring the innovative “smart fiber” Celliant™/Holofiber®, sponsored the class and awarded Brooks with a Draper Saddle Pad. “Balmoral is really gaining confidence and we had fun in this test,” said Brooks, who shows out of her own Brookhaven Dressage, in Ontario, Canada. “I gave him the season off when I went to the Olympics, so he missed a whole Florida season. Balmoral was a little behind because of it, but I have had a lot of help from Ashley Holzer, and he is doing wonderful.”

We use corridors of aid pressures to create a feel in the horse of a shape we want his body to take. Refinements in the positioning, intensity, timing and release of our basic seat, leg, and rein aids convey information about gait, speed, direction and the degree of collection we want. We aspire to the clear, precise coordination of aids that allows us to flow from one movement into the next then the next as we ride. In our daily riding sessions, however, "aspire" is more often the operative word than our actual experience.

Hester and Dujardin have continued their winning ways in the second week of the Spanish Sunshine Tour, at Vejer de la Frontera in Spain 9-14 March 2010. Under the now sunny skies, these British competitors bested previous scores and set the tone for the third and final week. Carl Hester led the way again with Sasha Stewart's 9-year old Dutch warmblood Uthopia (by Metall) scoring a whopping 75.29% in the horse's second ever Grand Prix Special on Sunday. Carl and his stallion picked up 73.02% in Saturday’s Grand Prix, an improvement again from last week’s win on 71.10%.

Wellington, FL - March 17, 2010 - Diamante Farms had a great weekend of competition at the Wellington Classic Dressage Challenge II, held at the Jim Brandon Equestrian Center. Diamante Farms is a dressage training, showing, and boarding facility in Wellington, FL, which is owned by Terri and Dick Kane. The Kane's daughter Devon and Diamante Farms' head trainer Michelle Gibson each showed their young horses over the weekend and each took home victories. The official judges for the weekend included: Axel Steiner "O", Natalie Lamping "I", Lorriane Mac Donald "I", Fran Dearing "S", and Joan Humphrey "S".

Nancy Later and Latamanda won the Intermediaire II class at the Wellington Classic Dressage Challenge II held at the Jim Brandon Equestrian Center. Sho Clothes, Wellington’s premiere dressage boutique and strong supporters of the dressage community, sponsored the class.
West Palm Beach, FL (March 17, 2010) – Nancy Later and her new mount, Latamanda EHT, turned in an award-winning ride at the Wellington Classic Dressage Challenge II to win the Intermediaire II class. Sho Clothes, Wellington’s upscale dressage boutique that specializes in the latest and most fashionable dressage apparel for show and play, sponsored the class. It was the first time out for Later and the stunning Dutch Warmblood mare, and despite dealing with bad weather Later was pleased with her ride. “The weather was so bad I thought we would only be able to school, but it let up and we were able to get in the ring,” Later said. “I bought Latamanda in November so it was my first time in the ring with her and I wanted to get to know her. It turned out to be really fun.”

Loxahatchee, Florida – They came. They won. They went home. After collecting a number of ribbons at the Wellington Classic Dressage Challenge II, held March 12-14 at the Jim Brandon Equestrian Center, the Barteau family loaded up their horses and headed out Sunday for the 23-hour drive home to the Chicago area.  It was a quick trip for Yvonne Barteau. Her daughter, Kassie, 21, spent the winter in Florida as a working student with Cathy Morelli while her parents, Yvonne and Kim, were back home at their KYB Dressage in Maple Park, Illinois. "We have the business to run and it's been very busy this year," Yvonne said. She came down to compete in last weekend's Palm Beach Dressage Derby CDI and this past weekend's Challenge II.

West Palm Beach, FL (March 12, 2010)  – Horse enthusiasts interested in purchasing world-class sport horses will be able to find just what they are looking for at an upcoming “European style” horse auction, hosted by Highlife Farms and featuring commentary by the legendary horseman George Morris. The sale will be held at the Jim Brandon Equestrian Center on Sunday, March 28, beginning at 2 pm, and feature over 35 horses and sport ponies from Highlife Farms, the country’s most prominent breeding farm and home to spectacular world-class sport horses.

“European auctions and sales offer a party-like atmosphere with breeders selling their horses, and that is exactly what we will be doing,” said Joan Sims, who owns Highlife Farms with her husband Kenny. “Our sale will be like attending a European Sport Horse auction, without having to leave Florida.”
