Wednesday March 1, 2006 Euro Update: Bouton to Lutkemeier, Heike Kemmer Wins 2006 Kampmann Cup, More Medals at 2006 World Equestrian Games
Heike Kemmer and her chestnut Hanoverian gelding Bonaparte (by Bon Bonaparte) have won the 2006 Kampmann Cup Finals. They won the Grand Prix Special with 78.48%, defeating Nadine Capellmann on Elvis and the surprise winner of the Grand Prix, Andreas Helgstrand on Blue Hors Don Schufro. Helgstrand and Don Schufro rode a personal best in the Grand Prix, winning the class with 77.08%. Further, the FEI announced a very important rule change which will be effective at the 2006 World Equestrian Games in Aachen, Germany. The Organising Committee of the 2006 FEI World Equestrian Games have confirmed today that they agreed to implement the new FEI Dressage Rules (22nd edition, effective 1 January 2006) and award medals to the winner of the Grand Prix Special. According to the new article 445 of the FEI Dressage Rules, medals are awarded for all three competitions of FEI Senior Championships, i.e. the Grand Prix (Team Championship Competition) the Grand Prix Special (Individual Competition) and the Grand Prix Freestyle Test (Individual Competition). Introduced in 1991 at the European Championship in Donaueschingen (GER), the double individual medals were awarded once at the FEI World Equestrian Games in The Hague (NED) in 1994, before being discontinued, when the Grand Prix Freestyle became the individual final. The new 3 medal championship formula is slightly different from the former one. It adds more value and give more importance ot the Grand Prix Special,, which in the previous formula, was only the second qualifier for the Individual medal. “We are delighted that the Aachen Organising Committee have accepted to implement the rule change already this year, and we do appreciate their efforts to make this possible in such a short time” stated Mariette Withages, Chairman of the FEI Dressage Committee. “This will without doubt add excitement to this 2006 World Dressage Championship” she concluded. Nadine Capellmann's Hanoverian gelding Bouton (Borneo x Weltmeyer) will be competed in the future by the 17-year old Fabienne Lutkemeier. For many years, the now 12-year old Bouton competed in the international small tour and only recently made the transition to Grand Prix level. Fabienne is Nadine's godchild and is a daughter of Gina Capellmann-Lutkemeier. "Fabienne will be competing Bouton at FEI Junior Riders level and will get experience in the Junior and Young riders tour with him. At home they can practise the Grand Prix movements," Nadine Capellmann said. "I hope the two will become a combination soon and I wish them much luck and success."
