California Dressage in the Spotlight - A Dressage Affaire to Remember
By Lita Dove for DressageDaily.com

The Dresssage Affaire A Vision Created by A Rider, Kim Keenan

Show organizer Kim Keenan, individual gold medalist Young Rider and winner of various international FEI classes, created The Dresssage Affaire , “ because I wanted to do something for the dressage community, to give something back.” She decided to model the show after the legendary ‘Dressage Extravaganza’ put on for years by Jane and Dick Brown (sponsors of Guenter Seidel and his series of international horses, includi8ng Foltaire, Niklaus and Aragon). Keenan’s show aims for a decidedly European feel, emphasis on rider satisfaction, including money classes for amateurs, and the technology made possible by Equiview, a company that offers instant scoring as well as DVDs of each test which can be seen from multiple angles—along with instant scoring on the DVD..

Keenan is planning a new show for November 9-11, the Del Mar Classic, and has applied for CDI status. “ We also plan for The Dressage Affaire to be a CDI next year, “ she says, in direct response to the rider requests for more CDIs. Starting next next year, U.S. riders will be invited to prestigious finals based on their points accumulated at CDIs, the same basis as already exists in Europe. Keenan says the response from sponsors and riders and volunteers has been wonderful, and inspires her to make the shows better every year.
