With the Show! - Life After the California Fires
As
California tries to move toward normalcy after last week’s wind
swept fires scathed Southern California and displaced thousands, within
each equestrian community multiple stories are surfacing about evacuations
and close calls for horses and people. All is needed is the prompt,
“How did you fare during the fires?” to initiate amazing
tales about these trying experiences. One common thread these stories
reveal is that people truly did support and help one another and continue
to do so after the disaster. By the weekend, most people were able to
return to their homes, and most horses to their own barns. Numerous
aide organizations have been set up around the county to assist those
who sustained losses in the fires.
Now that
the horses are home, questions arise about whether future shows and
events will take place as planned. A few updates as of 10/29 follow:
- Kim
Keenan, president of the newly formed show management organization,
Keenan and Pecorelli Events, confirmed that the Del Mar Classic CDI
will be held at Show Park November 9-11. Most competitors are arriving
on Thursday, November 8. One important change in the show’s
arena configuration is that although the CDI arena will be inside
the covered arena as previously, A and C will swap places. There are
a limited number of box seats and grandstand seats still available.

to order. There will be no digital scoring. Kim mentioned a new FEI
standard as of this season: if projected digital scoring is used,
neither judge nor competitor should be able to see it during the test.
- In
Murrieta, CA this weekend, extensive plans continue for the Red Hawk
Ranch Young Horse Specialist Program with Germany’s Katrina
Burger. The full schedule includes demonstration rides, lectures,
life foal guarantee auction, a fundraiser for fire victims, a wine
expert’s talk, and more. Contact Bob DeGour at redhawkranch.tv
for registration information.
- The
Legacy Farms Dressage Show, October 28 was cancelled.
- Dressage
Warmbloods and High Point Farms of Bonsall will host the Peter Borggreve
Dressage Clinic. Peter is a Master Bereiter who since 2004 has been
the Premier Riding and Training Master at the world famous Warendorf
Landgestuet stallion station. Contact Joanna Futerman at stillhawsless@aol.com
