The Gen. Burton documentary, titled “A Life of Equestrian Substance: Conversations with Major General Jonathan R. Burton,” has been two years in the making. Funded in part by The Dressage Foundation and Offield Farms, it was produced by Phelps/Hathaway Enterprises Inc. owners of the popular websites HorsesDaily.com and DressageDaily.com. Melvin Cox, senior producer of SportsQuest International, shot, edited and directed the final version. The documentary is dedicated to the memory of Mrs. Joan Burton, who passed away in February 2007.

The project was a collaborative effort that resulted in a documentary that provides current and future equestrians with an important glimpse of America's equestrian past.

It also includes comentary by notable equestrian figures such as USEF president and Olympian David O'Connor, USEF show jumping chef d’equipe George Morris, USEF show jumping team leader Sally Ike, course designer and technical delegate Trish Gilbert and event organizer Brian Ross.

The documentary is narrated by Brian O'Connor. Also included in the documentary are a fabulous collection of historic images gathered from a variety of sources, including General Burton's personal photo albums. Additional pictures have come from the United States Eventing Association, Mr. James Wofford, the Show Jumping Hall of Fame, the Harry S. Truman Presidential Library and Museum, the CHIO Aachen World Equestrian Festival and from various military, state, federal and private collections.
