For two weeks in November, members of the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) were given the opportunity to reserve on deposit tickets for the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games.

In a program which yielded $3.2 million in deposits 67,000 tickets were sold, by the discipline and for opening ceremonies. Dressage represented 22,000 in advance ticket sales, with Show Jumping yielding 20,000 in sales.

These numbers also represent strong figures which will be used in marketing to sponsors of the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games, and particularly show the popularity of Dressage among the USEF Members. Mary Phelps-Hathaway, CEO of the websites DressageDaily.com and HorsesDaily.com put a deposit on the maximum 6 tickets allowed for Dressage, and for Opening Ceremonies. “Personally we did not need to purchase any ticket at all.” said the long time member of the International Alliance of Equestrian Journalists (IAEJ). “We get press credentials for this competition which we have been covering and photographing since the first WEG in Stockholm Sweden in 1990. However we see this as a great opportunity to secure tickets which will be in tremendous demand for family, friends and to offer for fundraising charities in the future.”

With an expected audience of 600,000 to 700,000 expected for the 16 days of competition to be held September 25-October 10 at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky, the test deposit system offered through the USEF to test a new Ticketmaster reservations system will be offered to members of other key equestrian groups beginning early next year and will go on sale later to the general public.
