Courtney King Receives Renee Isler Sponsorship for Trip to 2008 FEI World Cup Dressage Final
By Mary Hilton for PMG
Isler initially met King last year when she contacted her about the Dressage Foundation grant project for juniors and young riders. At the time, Isler also asked King to take Ariel Matisse, a high school student, as her working student. "Now Ariel is going with Courtney to the World Cup!" Isler said. "It's about work ethic, not about the money. It's more about people that need the help and have a well-rounded personality - they're in school, they're doing well and working hard, they're volunteering, they have a part-time job. They're doing whatever it takes to get where they need to be."
In addition to supplying the funds needed for King's trip to the 2008 FEI World Cup Dressage Final, Isler is also helping King with plans for the future. "I've been talking with Courtney a lot over the past year and I've put together a business plan for her, to help her try to get support from different sponsors," explained Isler. "When you're a good rider, you're not always good at the business aspect of it, so I offered to hop in, do a business plan, and encourage Courtney to go outside the horse world for sponsors. My goal is to help promote dressage."
King expressed her appreciation of Isler's support saying, "Renee has been incredibly supportive about helping me to mold my future with more business sense since what I love to do is ride, and sometimes I do not look much further than that. Renee is an extraordinarily generous person, and she devotes an enormous amount of energy and resources to help promote dressage. I feel extremely lucky to be a major beneficiary of her commitment to help the sport."
