Wellington, FL – For years, FEI-level dressage rider and trainer, Caroline Roffman entrusted her competitive comfort to Custom Saddlery while taking champions like Sagacious HF and Her Highness O down the dressage world's most prestigious center lines. Now, the relationship has blossomed further: Cary Wallace of Custom Saddlery confirms that the makers of some of equestrian sports' most coveted saddles will support Roffman on her international journey through 2018. “Dressage is about development of the horse from the foundation through the most advanced level of horsemanship,” said Wallace. “Custom Saddlery recognizes how the equestrian athlete, in its musculature and its horizons, continues to grow. We're honored to know our saddles have taken Caroline and her horses this far, and excited to see what the future holds.”

"Buck" who Suzy has nicknamed "Gramps" yawns after his workout

My good friend and client Dressage trainer Michelle Folden from Charleston, SC, told me about “Buck” a 12.2 H Section A Welsh Pony (Dandardel Playboy X Doncardeb Sweet Jessy) at her farm who “needs a job”, and sent him to me to give him a try. With my Shetland pair, I call my “Combined Driving Starter Kit” I have wanted to ramp it up a notch, but not to have to buy all new carriages to fit something much larger. Since we didn’t know much about “Buck’s” history other than he had been around the show ring under saddle, I sent him to World Champion Pony Driver and Gold Medalist for the USA Suzy Stafford in beautiful Pennsylvania near my old stomping grounds in Unionville. After she determined he’d be worth the effort, her methodical training has begun, from having blinkers on, to dragging a tire, and this past week, hooking to a cart with a few days of careful ground driving, and now going solo. We stopped by for a visit, and got to see a piece of Suzy's world at home, and how she begins a pony for the "job" of driving.

Several years ago, with the inception of the Markel/USEF Dressage Young Horse Program, Judy Yancey became inspired to keep a keen eye on what type and quality of individual she was producing. Yancey, who has been breeding horses in the United States since 1975 determined the purpose and goals of the program were instrumental in tweaking her breeding direction. "I thought (and still think) that the purpose of the program is a positive step for breeders in the U.S. Having always strived to produce athletic, amiable, sound and talented stock for riding and breeding futures, this program gave me a more urgent drive, as results are more readily palpable, a more instant gratification - waiting only until youngsters are 4 years old to begin to see the results of my breeding goal." In 2012 that goal was realized when Christopher Hickey rode Qredit Hilltop to the Markel/USEF Reserve Championship for 4-year-old. This year two of Yancey's "creations" are very capably presented by Debbie Hill, propelled by owner, Leslie Waterman. One boy, Floretienne by Florestan out of Tamarinde (Jazz - Matador II) scored an 80% in his 4 -year-old test for top placing at The Kentucky Dressage Association Spring Show.

Christy Scotch

June 12, 2013 - The Dressage Foundation's Renee Isler Dressage Support Fund has awarded a $750 grant to Christy Scotch (AL) to attend the United States Dressage Federation’s L Education Program. Christy, a successful adult amateur who recently began instructing, is eager to attend the L Education Program to continue her dressage education. She also plans to pursue further judging certifications and participate in USDF’s Instructor Certification Program in the future. “I would love to help other riders to learn and move up the levels as I have done. I think that attending the L Program is a good way to expand my experience and understanding of classical dressage,” said Christy.
