Four young riders have been selected for the 2013 International Dream Program that annually sends young riders to Europe for an intensive 10-day dressage experience. The program is administered and funded annually by The Dressage Foundation (TDF). An independent selection committee, after reviewing dozens of applications, chose the following young riders to make the twelfth annual TDF trip to Europe: Katie Foster (MI), Molly Eastridge (WA), Hannah Pierucci (VA) and Molly Maloney (NY). The following two young riders were chosen as first and second alternates: Katrina Hiller (WI) and Genay Vaughn (CA). The selection committee based their decision on candidates’ essays, competition scores, recommendations, videos of their riding and signs of commitment to the sport of dressage.

GLOCK rider Edward Gal (NED) on his GLOCK's Undercover (Photo: © Nini Schäbel)

What a final as a fitting finish to four days of international dressage at four-star level. Despite the less than inviting weather, Carinthian spectators flocked to the GLOCK Horse Performance Center to see 'their' stars and above all GLOCK rider Edward Gal (NED) on his jet black GLOCK's Undercover and Spaniard Juan Manuel Muñoz Díaz on his gorgeous grey Fuego de Cardenas in the freestyle where prize money totalled €75,000.  Gal's music Secretum Revelatum transported the almost completely silent audience during the marvellous dressage performance. GLOCK's Undercover seemed very frisky but showed impressive collection. He made the piaffes and passages look relaxed, the canter powerful, the pirouettes well placed and the half-passes elegant. The audience was captivated and gave the multiple World and European Champion and third in the 2013 World Cup final a big round of applause. An 83.450% score with just about eights to nines for the technical and artistic execution and therefore victory was the judges' reward in today's final day of the Dressage International. "Starting twice and winning twice was really special here," said GLOCK rider Edward Gal, wreathed in smiles at the winner's interview.

Did You Know…..that if you purchase a new horse and pay a commercial shipper to ship the horse home, that you can add the value of the shipping (not to include quarantine cost if applicable) to the insured value? You have just made a huge investment, and now you need to make sure that your new addition makes it home safely. Although most commercial shippers carry insurance for the purpose of a crash, it usually carries small limits to cover each horse in the case of a death, and almost never covers medical issues that may arise.  As long as your new horse has insurance in effect before it loads on a trailer or plane, the horse is covered for full Mortality & Medical/Surgical (if chosen).  Accidents happen, let’s make sure your horse is protected.

Lexington, KY: The Inspection Tour process can seem overwhelming to someone who has never been through it before. It is the desire of the American Hanoverian Society Education Committee to make new Hanoverian breeders feel welcome, and make this first contact with the Society as stress-free and enjoyable as possible. To further this goal, the committee has embarked on a new program with the purpose of offering personal, one-on-one assistance to anyone new to the Hanoverian inspection process. Those who would benefit from this program would be new breeders, or a breeder attending their first Hanoverian inspection with a mare or foal.

Dressage Judges travel. As competitors, we see them at the end of the arena doing their jobs, imparting their educated comments about how we are doing at a certain level. We have no idea how they prepared to be there, how they live from one weekend to the next, or the lessons they've learned over the years. So, we caught up with three judges who travel nearly every weekend to a show somewhere in the world and asked them how they arrange, assemble, adapt to the weekly traveling. Janet Foy, Natalie Lamping and MerriLynn Griffin all said the same thing: they have a similar simple routine in how to prepare to leave for a judging assignment. One bag is nearly always ready to go, filled with the same important essential items. Once the weather has been checked for the new destination, a color coordination of several outfits must be made with comfortable and stylish shoes. For judges the saying for dress used to be, “Skirt and pearls” but it has eased up a bit over the last several years. Today, it’s most important for judges to be dressed neat and clean, and appropriate for the weather, be that wind, heat, rain or freezing.

The Netherlands emerged victorious as the pilot season for the FEI Nations Cup™ Dressage 2013 series got underway at Domain Equestre de Grands Pins in Vidauban, France yesterday. Sweden finished second at this opening event, with the host nation of France in third and Switzerland slotting into fourth place. Great Britain sent just three riders, but their chances ended before the competition even began when Sarah Millis’ HP Frontier did not pass the first Horse Inspection, leaving just four countries to battle it out in the final analysis. The Dutch showed their strength when, with only three in their side, they overcame a strong challenge from the full Swedish team that included star riders Tinne Vilhelmson-Silfven and Minna Telde.

Best Score of the Day
It was Vilhelmson-Silfven who produced the best score of day when posting 70.532 with the 11-year-old gelding, Divertimento. But Holland’s Laurens van Lieren and his 10-year-old mare, Hexagon’s Welnetta, were only 0.15 marks behind in second place individually, and when this good result was added to 69.234 from team-mate Stephanie Peters with Unlimited, and 67.255 from Katja Gevers and Thriller, then the Dutch had the edge with a winning margin of 0.404 at the end of the day. Only three of the four results count toward each team total.

Carmen Franco and Vinho dos Pinhais were presented with the Interagro High Score Lusitano award for their performance on Team Colombia at the 2013 Nations Cup CDI 3*.

Wellington, FL - In the team’s first appearance at the international level, Carmen Franco and the Lusitano stallion Vinho Dos Pinhais recently represented Colombia at the Intermediare I level during the Nations Cup CDI 3*, and their exceptional performance earned them the High Score Lusitano award, sponsored by Interagro Lusitanos. Franco was very excited to show what the 11-year-old Lusitano stallion was all about in this highly competitive dressage ring. “I’m very proud to be here,” she commented, “because we really have to make it for our team for this first year at the international level.” Franco continued, “I’m very proud to bring a Lusitano here. It’s really an amazing experience having a different breed here among this big group of warmbloods. There are good relationships with every horse,” she added, “but the Lusitanos give you something a little extra special that is very nice to have. He’s doing very well, and I am very pleased,” Franco said about Vinho Dos Pinhais, who is owned by Nanette Sexton of Southgate Farm. Sexton is a big fan of the Lusitano breed, and in fact owns two exceptional horses from Interagro: Ubrique Interagro and Acolito Interagro.
