Enjoy a fram to table event at Pineland Farm!

Pineland Farm host of the Five Star Symposium in December with FEI 5* Judges Stephen Clarke and Gary Rockwell, is hosting an agricultural experience for all to enjoy and learn from. Check out this Graze at Pineland Farm Event coming up, and consider making plans in 2015 to train with Dressage Olympians, bringing the family for a unique experience. Hosted by The Black Tie Company and Pineland Farms, Graze at Pineland Farms is much more than dinner - it's a farm-to-table event.  An evening at Graze includes a farm tour, "agri-tainment" accompanied by live, local music and farm fresh cocktails before dinner, and a four-course family style meal served al fresco - under the heated tent across from Pineland Farms' incredible English Gardens.

The next time someone asks if they can pet your horse - or even get close to it - you might want to make sure that you're covered. A case in point is when a toddler was bitten on the lower lip by a horse and suffered scarring that required immediate and possibly future surgery. Not surprisingly, legal action ensued. The story goes that a 4-year old girl had approached the horse while it was feeding. From the parent's point of view, the horse owner shouldn't have allowed the child near the animal. However, the owner countered that the parents should have watched the child more closely. The final outcome, which was settled before the case went to trial, came to $120,000. This was in spite of the fact that past and future medical costs were claimed at only $11,000.

Daniel Martin Dockx

Daniel Martin Dockx's is inspirational to say the least. He works long and low and relaxed for so long and you can see that working in this relaxed stretchy frame in no way precludes him from working on the basic important things like rhythm, transitions, collection. He releases tension and really gets his horse working over the back. You watch and know it just FEELS good! Dani shows how he works on his very green piaffe, tips on how he schools the half pass, preparation for the canter pirouette and typical problems encountered and how to plan for better pirouettes. Lastly, he finishes with schooling the flying changes. In this video, Daniel Martin Dockx rides Oxido, a pure Spanish horse showing Prix St Georges (owned by Hampton Green Farm), and demonstrates a typical work out with an emphasis on relaxation. A highlight is the great stretching work, building the gymnastic foundation for the rest of the work. Watch for the great pirouettes!

If you enjoy a good story, you will enjoy this book. If you love horses, you will love this book. I admit I am a horseman. Still, I approached this novel in a circumspect frame. I thought “Oh, another horse novel by a first time author who happens to be a horse person.” I have read several of these novel types. I am usually not impressed. However, I was pleasantly surprised that this was so much more than just another horse novel. I was also surprised by how quickly I was drawn into the story. I kept turning the pages. I wanted to know what was going to happen next. Mark Neihart, a first time author, brings his knowledge of the landscapes and politics of the Intermountain West and his experience in equine related businesses and the horse culture to a good result in this fast paced fictional novel - The Horse Angels.
