Sheridyn Ashwood continued her winning streak at the Sydney CDI winning the Grand Prix Freestyle in front of a capacity audience. Her win at tonight’s event concludes a dream run for the Queensland based rider who leaves the event with the Grand Prix treble. In taking victory Ashwood and her mount, the 16-year-old stallion Prestige VDL, toppled a class field which included Rozzie Ryan and GV Bullwinkle who was sixth to go in the field of 16 and set the bar high when they scored 71.13 per cent for which they received a roaring cheer from the enthusiastic crowd. Third last to go, Ashwood knew the score she needed to achieve in order to take the lead and armed with a more difficult routine which she changed following her earlier success at this event, she left the arena to loud applause and a score of 73.98.

Following her victory in Thursday’s Sydney CDI Grand Prix, Sheridyn Ashwood said she and her stallion Prestige VDL would only get better as the competition progressed. And she was right. Ashwood’s prediction came true at today’s Australian Sports Commission Grand Prix Special where together with the 16 year old bay stallion she took out the title with a super performance which blitzed the field. The Queensland based rider and her mount scored a personal best 70.37 and were the only duo to score over 70 per cent. The next best placed combination was Rozzie Ryan and GV Bullwinkle who scored 66.72. Ashwood is delighted to win but even more thrilled to achieve a mark with a seven in front of it. “I was in shock, I rode the horse down to the stables and the girls came in running and cheering. Then they told me I’d scored over 70 per cent and I was so excited.”

"We had a terrific training session at Oak Hill Farm in Illinois. There was once again a nice balance of U.S.-bred and imported horses," said USEF Young Horse coach Scott Hassler. "It was great to see riders I have worked with in the past with new horses as well as meeting some new professionals." The two-day training session held April 27-28 featured 11 horses between the ages of four and six. "The camaraderie, passion, and learning that went on there, in one short weekend, was inspirational," said participant Jessica Starck. "The passion Scott has for what he does, the love he has for the horse, and the knowledgeable creative approach he has to teaching is extremely prevalent. We all agreed we are proud to have him represent us." The open training session was attended by breeders, horse owners and local young horse enthusiasts, and their enthusiasm was not missed by Hassler.

It is with great sadness that the British Equestrian Federation and British Dressage announce the untimely passing of para-equestrian dressage rider Joanne Pitt. A World Class Performance rider, Jo, 34, has represented Great Britain up to Paralympic level and was a regular Grade II national and international competitor with notable success. With her long term partner Estralita, owned by her parents Robert and Hazel Pitt, she claimed the Grade II title at British Dressage’s winter championships less than a month ago. Jo, who was being treated for a very rare lung condition, pulmonary veno-occlusive disease, died peacefully on Thursday (02 May) afternoon with her family beside her.

The 30-year old Dutch warmblood gelding Avontuur passed away this morning, one week before his 31st birthday. The bright bay gelding by Ultrazon x Watteau xx was one of America's most successful dressage horses in the 1990s. Avontuur was hand picked by Kathleen's mom Betsy as an unbroken 3-year-old stallion in The Netherlands. After much training from Kathleen and her husband David Wightman, Avontuur rose to the highest level and became an international Grand Prix horse. His accolades include a team bronze and an 8th place at the 1994 World Equestrian Games in The Hague, a 5tj place at the 1994 World Cup Finals in Gothenburg, and an 8th place at the 1995 Los Angeles World Cup Finals. The duo also because the team alternates for the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta.

In 1975 Judy Yancey was a “dreamy eyed kid” who wanted a different kind of horse. She saw a small ad in the Chronicle of the Horse for a Trakehner Stallion for sale, imported from Germany, who was up in Canada.  With her father’s help, she went to the library to research Trakehnen, an East Prussian region from which the breed takes its name. Yancey bought the stallion Beaute', and brought one of the first warmbloods west of the Mississippi when she was located in Texas, which began her odyssey as one of the first and foremost breeders in America of German Sporthorses. Christophe Hinkel, breeding manager at the renowned Performance Sales International, Germany, home of the majority of the worlds’ top breeding stallions, has this to say about Judy Yancey. "At PSI we have had a long and successful relationship working with Yancey Farms. Judy Yancey understands the importance of the quality services required for assuring the best results when using imported semen for mares. We are proud of our relationship with Yancey Farms and contributing to the breeding programs in America." Yancey Farms, in Ocala, Florida is one of the pioneers in the American Sporthorse breeding Industry. While she likes to consider herself as “flying under the radar” Yancey is the first and foremost broker of imported semen for top stallions, which she has listed on her website. Her magic touch for getting mares in foal have made her the “go to girl” for aspiring and established breeders in the USA.

Sheridyn Ashwood is hoping her victory in today’s Sydney CDI Grand Prix sets the tone for the remaining two days of competition. On her way to victory, Ashwood and her 16 year old stallion Prestige VDL defeated a top calibre field which included Olympian Heath Ryan (Regardez Moi), his wife Rozzie (GV Bullwinkle) and David Shoobridge (OO Seven). The combination were awarded a score 68.85%. I’m really excited with how the horse is developing, he’s still continuing to improve. Every time we bring him out he’s just that little bit better,” Sheridyn said.

Wellington, FL – She's been called the 'fashionista' of the dressage ring and eq-forum boards lit up with stylish approval when Mary-Cameron Rollins sported a medium dark grey shadbelly with pale pink accents while riding her elegant black mare Rose Noir 2 to third place in last year's Brentina Cup. But great style isn't just a hobby, it's her signature as she prepares to graduate in June from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh with a degree in Retail Management and Merchandising. No less than longtime New Jersey equestrian beat reporter, Nancy Jaffer, also mentioned her stand-out style at the 2012 Dressage Festival of Champions: “Mary was wearing a stunning pinstriped gray shadbelly with pink collar and vest points, to match her post-ride pink baseball cap with ShowChic written in rhinestones. ShowChic is where she got the outfit, and Mary isn’t alone in stylish turnout as dressage goes beyond black and a little bling on spurs. Colors have become a big deal. Having ShowChic as a mentor has been great preparation for gaining experience towards my career. I had a blast on the buying trips,” Rollins confesses with a shopinista's grin.

Wellington, FL – Shelly Francis isn't shy about saying she likes to train her own horses, and while dressage isn't a sport typically known for pimping its rides, the fact of the matter is:  developing nationally-ranked dressage horses means ever-evolving equine physiques and you'd better have saddles and a saddlefitter up to the job. The Loxahatchee, FL rider and trainer wrapped up her winter season at the Adequan Global Dressage Festival with an FEI Prix St. Georges win (72.105%) on Patty Stempel's nine year-old black Hanoverian gelding, Danilo, during the Wellington (FL) CDI5* presented by Diamante Farms.  Out of nearly 20 entries, Francis and Danilo were the only duo to break the 70% mark. That's just for starters. Described by Wellington observers as having the best of string of horses since her last bid – 1998 – for a World Equestrian Games, the 54 year-old rider's winter circuit closed with her sitting pretty on the Tim Dutta National Rankings with two more Stempel horses:
