Carl hester and Elisabeth Austin with Coltrane

When American Dressage rider, trainer and breeder Elisabeth Austin won the prestigious Anne Barlow Ramsay Grant in 2011 she knew exactly how she wanted to use the $25,000. The grant established by Dr. Ramsay was established in 2008 to showcase talented American-bred horses ridden by United States citizens, by providing funds to train and compete in Europe.  Austin whose American bred Grand Prix Stallion Olivier (by Idocus) born and raised in Vermont on her mother’s Madeline Austin) farm Imajica, was the ideal candidate. “I chose to work with Carl Hester in England because I really respect his riding style, love how his horses go, and he got rave reviews from a few riders that I know and trust who had come over to work with him.” But, her plans were put on hold for a year because of a big time British event, the 2012 London Olympic Games where Carl competed for the British Team to a team Gold Medal, and his other horse, Valegro ridden by teammate Charlotte Dujardin won the individual Gold. This gave Austin time to focus on raising the funds to add Olivier’s son Coltrane to the plan. Austin rented out her Wellington condo, stuck out a winter in Vermont, and was off with her two boys to England this spring.

Wellington, FL - Sahar Daniel Hirosh, an International Grand Prix rider and competitor, has a track record of developing young horses from their beginnings under saddle to the Grand Prix. His technique, which focuses on the physical as well as mental well being of each horse, has proven very successful during the 2013 Florida winter circuit. With three consecutive wins on Dr.Roberta Weiss's Weinline, Hirosh is demonstrated the importance of developing a young horse slowly and not allowing the horse’s athletic talent and ability overshadow its mental preparedness. Hirosh and Weinline scored in the 70's at the Dressage National Shows 3 & 4, and completed the season at the Nations Cup National Show.  Hirosh took his time to gain the confidence and trust of this horse, a five-year-old Oldenburg mare (x Hotline out of St.Pr./El. Wienlady II x Don Gregory/Figaro) owned by Dr. Roberta Weiss of Wynnewood, Pennsylvania. “I am very happy with the results I had this season with Weinline,” said Hirosh. “My goal was to give her confidence, as well as build her strength and stamina. With all the horses I train, my aim is to develop them physically while at the same time ensuring that they are confident in their abilities. This makes them confident in me, and in return I am able to develop them to their maximum potential.”

Wellington, FL - On April 26, 2013, Administrative Law Judge Gary Early issued an Order finding, among other things, that the Global Dressage Complex ("GDC") has met, and in some cases, exceeded applicable South Florida Water Management District ("SFWMD") permitting regulations. Judge Early found that the evidence presented at Trial demonstrated that the GDC project proposal provided reasonable assurances that all applicable SFWMD stormwater management, water quality, and Best Management Practices ("BMP") standards were met.

Insurance can be a very expensive product. When the premium bill comes, it is easy to get into "that won't happen to me" mode and not adequately insure. But a little cost benefit analysis can help you make a rational choice as to what types of coverage you need and what the amounts of those coverage’s should be. Liability coverage is both the easiest and hardest coverage to gage. Why? Because what it might have to cover is always unknown. Good liability coverage will pay for whatever injury to other persons and damage to the property of others a court may find you responsible to pay for, AND a good liability policy should also provide for the payment of your legal costs in defending against a claim.
