Dressage at Devon Announces Judges for Breed and Performance Divisions

Trophy's from Dressage at Devon
Devon, PA – Dressage at Devon has confirmed the judges for the breed and performance divisions of the 2012 show.
Breed Division:
Jayne Ayers (USA) “R” DSHB
Jayne Ayers has been an FEI “I” (4*) dressage judge for over 20 years, and has been judging dressage for the USEF for over 30 years. Jayne also holds an ‘R’ license to judge Dressage Sport Horse Breeding classes. As a judge and clinician, Jayne has represented the FEI on the World Dressage Challenge Tour and teaching FEI Development Clinics. In addition to a busy judging schedule in the United States and Canada, she has judged extensively in Central and South America, as well as in Europe. Jayne is also active teaching and helping others develop their judging skills for dressage and for sport horse breeding as well as training horses and students.
Carter Bass (USA) “R” DSHB
Carter Bass has been involved with horses since childhood, competing in Hunters, Eventing and Dressage. She has been a dressage instructor for 35 years, and has coached several horse/rider combinations that have received Horse of the Year awards, regional championships and competed at Grand Prix. Bass has been a licensed official with the USEF since 1989, receiving “R” Dressage and “R” Dressage Sporthorse Breeding licenses. She has been accepted into the USEF Senior Judges training program for 2012. She is a Bronze, Silver and Gold medalist riding her homebred gelding Gossamer.
Janet Foy (USA) “R” DSHB & FEI 4*
Janet is an FEI 4* judge, USEF “S” Dressage Judge and a USEF Sporthorse “R” Breed Judge. She has judged at major shows in the US including the FEI North American Young Rider Championships, the FEI North American Junior Championships, The USA World Cup League Finals, Dressage at Devon, USET Festival of Champions and FEI shows across the country. Her international judging has included FEI World Cup League Finals and CDI*** in South America, Europe, Canada and Australia. Janet is a member of the USDF Executive Board and the USEF Board of Directors, a member of the USEF Dressage Committee and the International High Performance Dressage Committee. She is also on the USDF “L” Faculty and instructs judges training programs throughout the US for dressage and sporthorse breeding.
Sue Mandas (USA) “R” DSHB
Sue has been involved in the sport of Dressage for over 40 years. She is an active competitor, trainer, judge and instructor. She is a USDF Bronze, Silver and Gold Medalist and has been longlisted for the USET several times. Sue has trained many horses to the FEI levels, winning Regional or Reserve Champion at every level. Living in Dayton, Ohio, she teaches a great group of adult amateurs and is competing at Prix St. George and Intermediare.
Lisa Gorretta (USA) “R”
Lisa calls Chagrin Falls, Ohio, home. She has over 20 years of service to USDF including USDF's Activities-At-Large-Director, past director of USDF Region 2, Chair of the Regional Championships and Region 2 representative for the Technical Delegates Council and as a PM delegate. She has been an active member of her GMO {NODA} since 1970. Currently, she serves on the USEF Dressage Committee. Lisa is an adult amateur competitor and a USDF Bronze and Silver medalist.
Janine W. Malone (USA)”R”
Janine Malone has had a lifelong involvement with horses. Janine is a graduate “A” Pony Clubber, and is an instructor/trainer. She was USDF Region 1 Director from 1996-2001 and has competed through the Prix St. Georges level. She organized a FEI-recognized event (CDI Raleigh) for 17 years, and is owner/manager of a breeding farm in North Carolina. She is currently USDF Secretary and the USEF Vice-President for FEI Affiliates. She is a USEF “R” Dressage judge, an “R” Dressage Sport Horse Breeding judge, an “R” Dressage Technical Delegate and a FEI Chief Steward for Dressage. For almost 20 years, Janine was also a combined training judge, technical delegate and event organizer. She served the U.S. Pony Club in various volunteer capacities, including DC, Regional Supervisor and National Examiner.
Performance Division
Stephen Clarke (GBR) 5*
Stephen is President of the Ground Jury for 2012. Most recently Stephen judged the 2012 Olympics in dressage. Over the past decade, his career as an FEI judge has taken him around the globe to all major dressage competitions including four World Cup Finals, three European Championships, the World Games in Jerez, The World Equestrian Games in Aachen, the Olympic Games in Athens, and the Pan American Games to name a few. As a rider he competed successfully both nationally and internationally on his own horses. He was the reserve rider for the 1988 Seoul Olympics.
Maribel de Quinzanos (MEX) 5*
Maribel Alonso de Quinzaños of Mexico is a FEI 5* judge and deputy chair of the FEI’s Group 5 of Nations. She is the designated Foreign Judge at Dressage at Devon this year.
Gabriel Armando (ARG) 4*
In 1982, at the age of 20, Gabriel Armando was National Champion in his native Argentina, an honor he repeated the following year. An FEI 4* judge, he has judged in many continents including South America, North America, Asia and Europe, and in 2007 he judged the FEI World Dressage Challenge in Asia. A former Manhattan banker, Gabriel has represented Argentina numerous times. He won the silver Medal in the South American Championship in Sao Paulo, Brazil in 1998, was team member of the Argentinean team in the Pan American Games in the Dominican Republic and in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. A professional rider and trainer, Gabriel and his wife, dressage rider-trainer Suzanne Ross-Armando, are based at Diamond Creek Farm in Ringoes, NJ where they supervise the training of 25 horses.
Maria Colliander (FIN) 4*
Maria is a translator by profession for Finnish, Swedish and English. She has been a national judge in Finland for about 20 years, became a FEI Candidate judge in 2002, a FEI International judge and Young Horse judge in 2006. Colliander has judged at international shows in the Nordic countries, Russia, Estonia, Canada, France, United States, Spain, Italy, Kazakhstan and Germany. She officiated at the Young Horse World Championships in Verden, Germany in 2007, 2009 and 2010 and the European Championships for Juniors & Young riders 2008 in Portugal. She judged three times on the FEI Challenge Tour in Africa. Colliander competed nationally up to Intermediare I and won the Finnish Team Championship in dressage four times. Now, she trains dressage riders up to Intermediare I and also trains show jumping riders.
Christoph Hess (GER) 4*
Christoph went into military service at the “Bundeswehr” sports school at Warendorf after graduating from high school. From there he went on to study diploma pedagogics, focusing on adult education, in Hannover, Göttingen and Oldenburg. Christoph has been in the training department of the German Equestrian Federation since 1978. He is currently the head of the Instruction Department and the head of the Personal Members Department. He was a member of the FEI Eventing Committee from 2003 to 2007. Christoph is an FEI 4* Judge for Dressage and Eventing and is actively involved internationally in the education of judges and trainers. He has judged and provided commentary for the FEI Young Horse Championships, Stallion shows and the WEG in Aachen. He is a director of judges’ and instructors’ courses in Germany and abroad, as well as an examiner of judges and trainers at the highest level in Germany.
Christof Umbach (LUX) 4*
Christof Umbach is a native of Germany and a resident and citizen of Luxembourg. He has bred, owned and ridden horses competing at the international level, as well as training competitors to the international level. In 1991, Christof became a national judge in Germany and in 1995 passed his exam to be a professional rider in Warendorf, Germany. In 2000, Christof moved to Luxembourg and became the operator of a professional dressage stable and became a member of the national dressage committee. In 2003, Christof was the Event Director of the CDIO*** in Mondorf les bains.
Hans-Christian Matthiesen (DEN) 4*
Mr. Matthiesen is a FEI 4* judge and resides in Denmark.
Jeanne McDonald (USA) 4*
Jeanne McDonald owns and operates Turning Point Farm, located near Devon, PA. Jeanne is an FEI 4*, a USEF “S” dressage judge and a USDF Bronze, Silver, and Gold medalist. She is an active competitor, having competed in dressage for over 25 years and trained all three of her horses to Grand Prix. In 2004 with Tantris, her approved Oldenburg stallion, she was the GAIG/USDF Reserve Champion at Intermediaire II and Grand Prix. Jeanne has judged the European Junior & Young Rider Championships in Ermelo Holland, and has judged the USEF National Young Horse Championships six out of the last seven years. She has judged many shows in Canada, Mexico & Costa Rica and is an active clinician.
