"For the Good of the Horse" - Biomechanics of the Horse Symposium with Dr. Gerd Heuschmann, Oct 6-7, 2012, in Southern Pines, NC.

At his only US clinic in 2012, Dr Gerd Heuschmann, world renowned expert on equine biomechanics, author of Tug of War: Classical Versus Modern Dressage: Why Classical Training Works and How Incorrect Riding Negatively Affects Horses' Health, and the film, If Horses Could Speak, will be presenting a lecture along with instructing riders on the use of correct biomechanics in training. This is a unique opportunity to gain valuable knowledge. Gerd will also be sharing information from his new book, Balancing Act: The Horse in Sport - An Irreconcilable Conflict?
Saturday and Sunday, the morning will start with a lecture and slides. On both days, during lunch, Jochen Schleese, owner of Schleese Saddlery and expert on biomechanics of fitting the saddle to the horse and rider, will share vital information every rider should know when making decisions regarding saddles.
Saturday afternoon, Dr. Heuschmann will present the "Painted Horse," which is a horse drawn with the essential bones and supportive structures, to bring to life what really goes on when a horse is at work. This fantastic demonstration allows us to gain a better understanding of how the biomechanics of the horse work. Saturday's "Painted Horse" demonstration will be followed by riding sessions, wherein Dr. Heuschmann will guide riders in working their horses with biomechanical correctness in their chosen discipline.
Sunday afternoon will feature five riding sessions guided by Dr. Heuschmann. On the Friday evening before the symposium, a reception, dinner and roundtable discussion, 'For the Good of the Horse,' will be held at the host hotel, the Hampton Inn in Southern Pines, NC.
Dr. Heuschmann and other well respected members of the horse industry will discuss elements of stewardship to the horse - in and out of competition. Dr. Heuschmann will be available to sign books.
Schedule at a Glance - All times are approximate - Final schedule will be posted by Oct 1 "Some horses are being trained with mechanical and technical devices in the shortest time possible. The goal of training should be to further the horse's capacity to perform, and optimize his physical beauty as well as his overall well-being by taking enough time."
