Rain and Power Outages Delays the Final Day of Dressage at the NAJYRC

Written by bossmare

The weather has not been on the side of the 2011 North American Young Riders’ Championships. The relentless heat and humidity broke today at the worst possible time: during the last set of the Junior Young Rider Freestyle. Individual Gold medalist Sadie Lahey had just begun her test when the skies opened in a torrential rain. Lahey and Up to Date P soldiered on and did a solid test without flinching, scoring a 66.675. When the next rider to go circled the arena the officials called a rain delay with thunder and lightning moving quickly into the Kentucky Horse Park. Then the power failed, not just at the Horse Park but the entire surrounding area affecting over 1400 homes and businesses. Last report from our contacts texting from the tower of the arena they we going to bring in generators to get the speaker system going in an attempt to finish the class, with the Young Rider Division to follow. With the delay and loss of power progress still remains uncertain. The footing, prepared for the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games remained intact in in good shape. Stay tuned for more NAJYRC drama.
