Diane Creech and Leatherdale Farm’s Devon L Take Prix St. Georges Win at Paxton Farm CDI

Cincinnati, Ohio – Canadian rider Diane Creech and Devon L took the win in the opening day Prix St. Georges at the Paxton Farm CDI. And cheering her on along the sidelines were Devon L owners Doug and Louise Leatherdale.

"It was quite a special day. It made it even more special that Doug and Louise were able to be here with me,” Creech said. She and Devon L won the FEI CDI Prix St. Georges with score of 68.650. Second were Gillian Sutherland and Great Tyme with a score of 67.60. Third was Christopher Hickey riding Bugatti Hilltop with a score of 67.25.

The Leatherdales, owners of Leatherdale Farms in Long Lake, Minnesota, have been doing quite a bit of cheering these days. That’s because in addition to the horses they have in training with Creech, they own two Grand Prix horses in training with American rider Sue Blinks – Robin Hood and Mark, both Dutch Warmblood geldings. Doug is Canadian and Louise American, hence, they’re supporting both nations.

"Doug handles the Canadian side. He’s the one who signs the passports for the Canadian horses. I take care of the Americans,” Louise Leatherdale said. And thus, when it comes to talking about the couple’s leading Canadian horses – Devon L and Wiona – it’s Doug who does the talking. And it’s very clear he was thrilled with Devon L’s Prix St. Georges win. Read more.....

Bettina Drummond: The Artist as Rider
By Lynndee Kemmet

While much of the dressage world seems in conflict over the question of whether dressage is art or sport, classical trainer and rider Bettina Drummond faces no such conflict. For her, riding has always been art. Drummond was a budding pianist at the age of seven when her mother, Phyllis Field, pulled her from her studies in Paris and sent her off to Portugal to study with the great riding master, Nuno Oliveira. For the next 20 years, Drummond was immersed in the classical system of riding, most particularly the French training method. Her childhood and early adult years were spent in the company of some of the world's leading academic equestrian of the last half of the 20th century, many now long gone, but very much alive in Drummond's memory. Nick Wagman Wins the High Performance Intermediaire I CDI

Nick Wagman won first place in the highly competitive High Performance Intermediaire I class on Saturday with his lovely 16.2 hand Dutch warmblood mare, Uforia who is by Negro out of Montana who is by Fruhling. This was only the seven year old mare's second Intermediere test, the first being at the Dressage Affaire CDI in March. Nick was delighted with her performances over the weekend, "I can't complain. She is now quite comfortable with the PSG test, and is becoming more familiar with the I-I. I really don't want to pressure her, since she is only seven. Her performances at this show made me decide to go ahead and do the freestyle at the Flintridge qualifier in May as we may make the Festival of Champions with these scores."
