The 21-year-old Young Rider claimed her third consecutive National Championship in impressive fashion. Despite the downpour, the gutsy Young Riders completed their competition as they were the only class to go on Sunday morning. Riding GP Raymeister, Barteau left no question that her title defense was not negotiable, as her score of 72.368% in the Young Rider Individual Test was almost three marks better than Caroline Roffman and Accent Aigu FRH. Barteau is a USDF Bronze, Silver and Gold Medalist, who aboard her long term partner Gabriella won the USEF National Young Rider Championships on 2007 and 2008.

Gladstone, NJ – After a four day battle, the rain finally won at the 2009 Collecting Gaits Farm/USEF Dressage Festival of Champions, and collectively the Ground Jury and the management decided that, in the best interest of the horses, the competition was suspended after the Young Riders rode first thing Sunday morning. Feelings were definitely divided on this decision as riders, owners, vendors, spectators, and those who paid high prices for tables were all affected. Ironically once the decision had been made, and the judges and officials were off to catch earlier flights home, the rain stopped and the sun came out for the fist time in four days.

Saturday's Grand Prix Freestyle, which served as the second-leg in the three-round championship competition, was won by Adrienne Lyle and the 10-year-old Oldenburg gelding Wizard. It was quite a jump up from the pair's ninth-place finish in Friday's Grand Prix. Their freestyle score was 74.950 percent. Placing second in the freestyle were the winners of Friday's Grand Prix – Leslie Morse and Tip Top 962, a 15-year-old Swedish Warmblood stallion. They scored 74.250. This Just In! After the completion of the Young Rider Individual Test, which was swept by Kassie Barteau and Raymeister, the ground jury made the decision to cancel the rest of the classes today - the Intermediaire Freestyle, and Grand Prix Special. As if by divine irony, as soon as the decision was announced it stopped raining (for now). Some riders are thrilled, some upset. The Championships were based on the standings after two rounds of competition that ran through yesterday, which makes Catherine Bateson Chandler and Dea II USA Intermediaire Champion, and Leslie Morse and TIP National Grand Prix Champions for 2009!
