Arlington, WA - After more than three decades of breeding top sport horses, Sylvan Farm's Judy Hedreen announced her retirement. Hedreen has been a fixture in the industry since becoming the first Executive Director of the American Hanoverian Society in the late 1980s. During her tenure as head of that organization, and for many years thereafter, Hedreen worked tirelessly to develop an exceptional herd. "Retirement comes with mixed emotions," explains Hedreen. "I have enjoyed the journey, relished the successes, made many friends along the way and most of all lived a life-long dream." As part of Hedreen's retirement, Sylvan Farm will offer the majority of their herd to bidders around the world. This is the first and only time for this type of offering.

Miami, FL - The exclusive equestrian community of Florida has long been an influential and trend-setting population. Fashion, jewelry, art, social events and horses all mix together and align beautifully within the luxurious lifestyles of elite equestrians. However, with their fast-paced show schedules and jam-packed social calendars, most equestrians have little time to worry about such things as the real estate market or the latest methods for buying and selling property, which could pose a problem when it comes to having to make quick decisions about re-locating or upgrading their facilities and farms to accommodate their horses. This is where the professionals at Platinum Luxury Auctions have stepped in to provide a perfect solution for both buyers and sellers of high-end equestrian properties, and in doing so, have sparked a new trend in luxury real estate sales.

Green Mountain Horse Association venue in beautiful Vermont

Since 1926, Green Mountain Horse Association in Vermont has been the go-to venue for equestrians in the Northeast. GMHA is a 1,500-member non-profit organization dedicated to equine sports, education and trail preservation. In 1970, GMHA ran its’ first recognized dressage show and now holds 17 days of dressage competiton and training through the season. Many top riders, including George Williams and Carol Lavell, are indebted to GMHA for its’ role in their development. Despite its’ history and success, GMHA has had to fight hard to stay afloat. A successful 2008 Capital Campaign resulted in the much-needed addition of a show ring and warm-up area, renovated barns, and enhanced trail network.

The inaugural copycat Global Dressage Forum NA staged a clear format in how to share top competitor knowledge with top judging knowledge.  The format taken from the European Global Dressage Forum with a curtain, interview area, and panel discussion was truly a blessing in the purity of the learning.

The dialogue and discussion between the demonstrators and the panelists centered on important issues, the training of the dressage horse for the international competition arena. A beautiful layout for the stage, the opening of the curtain to the arena, and then a closed curtain panel discussion made the viewing format super interesting by showcasing lifelong learned philosophies by top riders and coaches.

The differences in lifelong learned theories by each of the demonstrators was simply amazing. The willingness to first share their childhood influences in a television interview high-back chair area of the stage, then second teaching or demonstrating the horses training behind the opened curtain, and finally the closed curtain questions by the panelists was simply outstanding.

David Marcus and Don Kontes at the Kentucky Dressage Association Competition Hosts First CDI*** 2012 (Photo: PhelpsPhotos.com)

Ocala Fl: David Marcus, 2012 Devon Grand Prix Winner, International FEI rider and Canadian Olympic team member will be teaching at Longwood Farm South on February 24 and 25, 2013. “Longwood Farm has been known for excellent eventing and dressage competition and has been a huge supporter of clinics, I’m only happy that David can complement their roster. He is a fantastic rider who really is breaking out with quality horses and riding and should benefit a growing dressage population in Ocala,” states Kelly Gage, owner of Team EnGaged.

A life-long equestrian, Marcus began his dressage career in 1996. While always apart of the international scene, Marcus hit his stride in 2012, with numerous CDI large tour wins and placings throughout the East Coast and Florida  on  Chrevi's Capital (Chrevi's Cavallo), a 12-year-old Danish Warmblood gelding who he won Dressage at Devon with, and Don Kontes (Don Schufro) a 12-year-old Swedish Warmblood gelding, who also took the Grand Prix Special at Devon to scores in the upper 60’s. The year cumulated for Marcus at the 2012 London Olympics where he participated as a team member on Chrevi’s Capital. He currently trains with Robert Dover.

Joep Bartels, Founder of the Global Dressage Forum est 2001

As the Global Dressage Forum, after 11 successful years, finally attained broad support by all stakeholders in dressage, a second Global Dressage Forum was announced to take place in Florida in the beginning of 2013. A reason for confusion. Some explanation is helpful. Being asked about the Florida Global Forum, Joep Bartels, who is the GDF organiser since 2001 and a fellow board member of the new founded umbrella Global Dressage Foundation, commented as follows: "We don't object to a North American initiative or whatever initiative. We even have set the goal and aim to open up possibilities to spread over the world and to vary in the place to held the Global Dressage Forum. Apart from this, it is always great when clinics and seminars increase the knowledge about our sport. I even like to add that the organiser of the new Florida Forum and myself have talked for some time about a possible cooperation. To have another Global Dressage Forum in three months' time without the involvement of our Foundation and program committee, is not our idea however.
